What is the Difference between a Generator and a UPS?
A generator produces electricity and can be used either as a backup or as a primary power source, whereas a UPS is a battery-based system that provides uninterrupted power but only for a short duration. A UPS is generally used to cover outages from a few minutes to a couple of hours, while a generator can provide support for much longer periods, from 2 hours to 72 hours and beyond. This makes a generator the ideal choice for protection against extended power failures.
For industries and applications of a critical nature such as film productions, live events, data centres, and hospitals, a generator and UPS are often used together. In case of a power cut, the UPS instantly delivers power without interruption while the generator starts up.
